What is a LockFOB?
A Key Fob is powered externally; a smart lockFOB is also powered externally in a FREE OF BATTERY™ (FOB) electronic access control system. Smart lockFOBs have NO power source and NO batteries; they are completely powered wirelessly with a NFC smart phone, physically with a USBE-Key or a hybrid of the two. Smart lockFOBs can be configured and managed by a “Master” USBE-Key or a smart phone.
Eliminate the mechanical key and the battery in smart locks. LockFOBs system leverages the existing NFC and USB Mass Storage specifications. Smart lockFOBs can be designed for any type of lock; Door locks, Pad locks, CAM locks etc... The advantage is the reduced footprint by eliminating the batteries and the mechanical key linkage components. Just eliminating the batteries will save over $4 per lock assuming 4 AA batteries at $0.25/each, changed 4 times over the life of a lock. More important than the cost savings is the end consumer never has to waste time changing batteries.
There are three types of lockFOB access control systems:
These lockFOB designs can replace any old style electronic lock with similar and even more compact form factors.
NFC Radio Smart lockFOBs are configured, operated and powered by a NFC smart phone and operated and powered with a USBE-Key or a NFC smartphone.
Wireless Smart lockFOBs are configured by a smart phone (Bluetooth or NFC) and powered and operated with a USBE-Key. When configuring the lockFOB with a smart phone, a USBE-Key must be used to provide power.
USB Smart lockFOBs are configured by a Master USBE-Key powered and operated with a USBE-Key.
Let’s have a look at how it all works together.
LockFOBs and USBE-Keys seamlessly integrate into the current smart lock systems, yet are the next generation upgrade. Smart lockFOBs have NO power source and NO batteries; they are completely powered wirelessly with a NFC Smart Phone, physically with a USBE-Key or a hybrid of the two. the USBE-Key is universal and with a simple connector can replace the mechanical linkage with a true electronic key.
